The move to NYC is imminent, I'll be up there by this Tuesday. New chapter and all that; I'm excited.
In the meantime, just noticed a theta blast from the past on the internets. Enjoy!

Thanks to you wonderful people for coming out to all the shows we've been playing over the last year and for sticking with us [because of vs. despite] our oscillation between tunes and chaos. We were just as confused and lucid as you were.
...I Can Head Home Tomorrow. Another Cville Saturday night awaits, among the last I'll have for a while.

Almost a year ago I saw one of the very first in a string of reunion gigs put on by Polvo, one of the so-called math-rock (WTF does that mean?) bands of the 90's. If the crappy math-rock label already makes you wanna dismiss em, you should reconsider. Polvo were not into the kind of pointless virtuosity, bombast, and intricacy associated with the math-rock tag. Instead, they played guitar in strange tunings, approached melody as a series of tone centers rather than individual notes to be played in perfect tune, and managed to exude perfect calm and maelstrom simultaneously.
Anyway, I found some really old notes I had taken quickly after the show that were originally meant to be turned into a post; there are also some really murky but interesting bootleg recordings from the show that I made using a mic that fits into one's iPod. School/work interfered with the post, but I just found the old notes and recordings lying around and figured they're worth a post.
UPDATE: you can download a .rar file of a few recordings of Polvo playing at the Black Cat in DC here.
Notes after the jump:

Farsheed beats me to the punch again, but I'll reiterate here:
1) Check out Grown Kids Radio, which is Spinnerty and a whole slew of other incredible Bay Area DJs laying down a really wide variety of beat-based music. When I get back to VA and have my iPod handy I'm definitely gonna load up their podcasts and become a compulsive listener.
2) New Orange Drink tracks on a weekly basis. Press play sucka!
Otherwise, still in NYC and since Wednesday I have seen the following: Ratatat, Jandek, a few chiptunes associated cats (including some French cat whose moniker translates roughly to "I Became A DJ 3 Days Ago" or something), Invisible Hand(s)...and I remain effectively homeless in this city. It's an adventure. I'll fill y'all in on these and other events when I get a bit more time. Enjoying my time up here but def looking forward to returning to Cville and riding out my last days there.
