Long time no see. The Audiozine is stirring back to life. I'm e-mailing you to fill you in on some nice things on offer at the website.
1) Benefit for the Charlottesville Free Clinic
This will be happening April 05th @ 8 PM, $5 cover goes to charity, venue is The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative (209 Monticello Rd). 3 Bands + 1 DJ = Adam Smith and the Invisible Hand; Clarence Thomas Action-Adventure Unit (my band w/A. Albin playing a rare and nearly final show!); Quiet My Dear; and DJ Hummingbird Feeder.
2) Clarence Thomas Mixtape
To give you an idea of what my band's set at the show will entail, I've put up a few tracks that comprise a little mixtape of stuff we're either sampling, covering, or influenced by. Tracks by Justice, Blind Willie Johnson, Madvillain, Michael Jackson, Charles Mingus, and AMM. The AMM track alone is worth a download as it is a 26 minute avant-garde prepared guitar/drums duet from a British radio broadcast that is only available in the form of a high quality bootleg -- in other words, you won't be able to find this easily elsewhere!
3) Audiozine Listening Series 03
I've put up the new Portishead single, "Machine Gun", and the new Ricardo Villalobos single, "Enfants (Chants)", both of which are super exciting and making big waves in the blogosphere. Portishead's new song is a significant departure, using electro and industrial influences in place of their earlier R&B samples. The new Villalobos track has a very minimal beat, samples of children's music, and a hypnotic piano ostinato. It was made the day before his first child was born and was only released as a vinyl EP.
