Ultradolphins

Quick/Dirty

Just so you know, two shows I'll be checking out Friday night (and you should too):

1) Robert Jospe's Inner Rhythm @ Gravity Lounge, $10, show starts 7:30 PM. Robert Jospe is the man who gave me a few years of amazing lessons on the drums, teaching me a variety of samba, calypso, rhumba, bebop, funk, and other rhythms and making me an infinitely better player than I used to be. He's an amazing drummer and strong composer in his own right (the dude used to take lessons from Tony Williams for pete's sake!). Yeah the show's pricey, but I guarantee that his group's blend of Afro-Latin rhythms and hot jazz improvisation will be worth the cover. Bonus points: my friend, Temi, is playing with the group too!

2) Fucked Up, Ultradolphins, Order @ Outback Lodge, $??, doors 9:00 PM. Still haven't really heard Fucked Up, but word on the street is that their latest album "The Chemistry of Common Life" is one of 2008's best. Supposedly a blend of hardcore punk and a variety of more progressive arrangements (horns, etc?). I'm going out of curiosity (their live shows are rumored to be really wild and strange) and because these "big" shows used to be shockingly common just a few years back so I feel like it's worth supporting such an event. Order and Ultradolphins are local heroes who bring the spastic ruckus every time. Bring earplugs.
