Tereu Tereu

Advice From Elsewhere

I don't live in Cville anymore, which means there is an excellent show this Thursday that I'll sadly be missing. Check it:

Thurs 06/18/09
Tea Bazaar
cover = a few bucks???
St. God's Hospital
Tereu Tereu (or official website, if you prefer)
Oblio

St. God's Hospital seemed to be on the up-and-up right before my departure from Cville. Oblio's songs are tuneful, with a massive guitar sound and an anthemic pop quality. The band that I'll really vouch for, though, is Tereu Tereu. I've caught them in Cville on a few occasions and, apart from being nice guys, they play songs that manage to be melodic, catchy, and rhythmically off-kilter. They reminded me of some of the later Dischord Records bands and a thus far cursory listen to their new album seems to see them deepening and extending those sonic kinships. Still ultra-underrated in Charlottesville as far as I can tell -- give em a shot!

Fingerpainters, Tereu Tereu, Boy Genius -- Aug 11 @ DUST

Apologies for my extended absence, things have been busy on the school/work front and, besides, nothing too earth-shattering has happened around here lately on the musical front. However, a great show is happening Monday Aug 11th. Details:

Who: Fingerpainters; Tereu Tereu; Boy Genius
When: Monday August 11th, circa 9 PM
Where: DUST (corner of Market and Meade)
Cost: ?? (probably cheap)

Fingerpainters are a great Cville band who play somewhat infrequently. I've seen them once or twice and their shows feature a visually arresting moment where one of the guitarists screams into an aluminum can against the neck of his guitar, creating this fantastically warped feedback/scream texture.

Tereu Tereu are a superb indie-pop band from Fredericksburg, VA who also manage to incorporate some of the rhythmic devices used by the classic Dischord Records bands. The songs are catchy, the rhythm section is tight, and they're really friendly people as well.

I have no idea who Boy Genius are, but you should peep their MySpace page per the above link.

When things begin to settle down a bit, I have a few nice things to post here. Thanks for reading.

Tereu Tereu et al this Thursday at TeaHaus

Hey all,

Heads up, there's an awesome show afoot. The details:

Who: Tereu Tereu, feat. Sean Walsh and the National Reserve + Meredith Bragg
When: Thursday March 20th
Where: Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar

What/Why: Tereu Tereu play muscular indie-pop with a strong DC indie rock foundation. Tricky rhythms? Check. Catchy hooks? Check. Nice guys and an engaging onstage vibe? Check. Peep Sean Walsh's Old Weird Americana and Meredith Bragg's New Weird Americana at the myspace links above.

Tereu Tereu -- Sunday Nov 4th

Tereu Tereu w/Bellman Barker + Carol Bui
Sunday Nov 4th @ Outback Lodge
Doors 8:30
$5

Adam from Tereu Tereu was kind enough to lemme hear the entirety of their new EP, Feline Ambition, which is a nice mix of lean guitar lines, sing-songy indie-pop vox, cheery horn arrangements, and sharp hooks. Head to their MySpace for more sonic goods. Bonus: the EP was produced by one of the guys in Faraquet and features some backup vocals from Travis Morrison.

Also, it will be my birthday. Buy me a brrr and say hi hi hi.
